WILLIAM MARTIN BENDIXEN was born on March 18, 1871, at Copenhagen, Denmark. He emigrated to the United States when he was nineteen years old, first arriving in Elk Horn, Iowa. He married Marie Jacobsen at Elk Horn and they came to Marne in 1893 to make their home. Mr. Bendixen was a master painter and interior decorator and learned his trade and served his apprenticeship in Denmark before emigrating to this country. Mr. and Mrs. Bendixen were the parents of one son, William Bendixen, now a resident of Atlantic, Iowa. Martin Bendixen and Ben Skow were in partnership for many years and were widely known in this area for their expert craftmanship. Mr. Bendixen died in 1940.
