EDNA TOWNSHIP (CONT'D).

FIRST MARRIAGE.

The first marriage in Edna township was that of John Dyer and Mary E. Porter, daughter of Edward and Clarissa (Powell) Porter, the ceremony being performed by Judge Dickerson at the home of the bride's parents in Round Grove. They had located at that place, in September, 1855, occupying the farm lately vacated by William S. TOwnsend and wife, and their daaughter's marriage to Mr. Dyer occurred not long afterward. Mr. Porter was a Pennsylvanian by birth, but had ben a farmer of Ohio and Illinois before coming to Cass countyin his middle age. He was the father of thirteen children, many of whom, with the mother, occupied the log cabin on the old Townsend farm until 1870, when Mr. Porter erected a comfortable frame house.
