GEORGE REEVES

The title of earliest settler, so far as Washington township is concerned, must be given to George Reeves, as when he came to the territory now embraced within her limits, no living thing was there to dispute his title, save the wild animals and game that had undisturbed possession since the retirement of the aborigines in their course toward the setting sun.

George Reeves came in 1851, and settled on section 35. He built a cabin, but otherwise made very few improvements. George did not have one of the best of reputations,m and was not to be relied on. He died in the county, while driving along in his wagon, in 1856. His was the first burial in the township. When he came here, his last location had been Warren county, this State.
