PLEASANT HILL
CEMETERY
The Pleasant Hill Cemetery lies in the northeast corner of Section 5 of
Fremont Township. To get there from Clarksville, you travel four miles north
on Hwy. 188, four miles north on T64, and two miles east. From Plainfield you travel
five miles west on Hwy. 188 and four miles north. The cemetery and the
church are on the west side of the road.
On May 16, 1888 Henry Stille had deeded three acres of land to the
congregation at Pleasant Hill on which to place these buildings; the church, a
parsonage, and a horse barn. Also a portion of the land was set aside for a
cemetery. The cemetery was laid out in 1888 and in 1983 more land was
purchased to the west of the driveway and plotted out for cemetery purposes.
The first church was soon outgrown and a second church was built in 1905.
It was struck by lightening in 1919 and then the present church was built
within a year and dedicated in 1920. The second parsonage was built in 1914.
