David Mowers was born in Herkirmer county, N. Y., May 30, 1801. He was married to Miss Susan Stroup in New York, on March 14, 1842. About sixteen years ago they moved to Wright county, Iowa, living most of the time near Holmes. On March 28, 1894, his companion in life died and was buried in the Clarion cemetery, by whose side his remains were placed on Thursday last, the 14. They had journeyed pleasantly together in life's pathway for fifty-three years, and the last three years would have been very lonesome for him but for 1 the loving kindness and affectionate care of the children that remained with him. Their union had been blessed with ten children. Four of their children died in their earlier married life, leaving two sons and four daughters to mourn the death of their kind and faithful father. One daughter resides in Nebraska; one son at Grafton, Ia., the remaining children residing in our midst, being Mr. Geo. H Mowers, Mrs. John Burgy, Mrs. W. H. Ellsworth and Mrs. Wm. Nichols. Since the death of his wife his home has been mostly with his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Ellsworth. Until lately he has been very active for one of his age and af fliction, and it was always a pleasure to meet and converse with his neighbors and acquaintances, while they enjoyed listening to his accounts of experiences he passed through during his long life on earth. Over twenty years ago he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in New York. His residence when be first came to Wright county was such that owing to physical disabilities, and and lack of church privileges, he did not change his church relations, but he continued firm in his Christian beelief and confident in his assurance of life immortal up to the last moment ofr his life. Though he was very deaf c during his last days on earth, on several calls made by the writer he ale ways manifested great pleasure as he o recognized some familiar passages read from God's word, and responded freely f to the prayers that were offered'in his behalf at the threne of grace, and expressed a blessed hope of soon reaching that home where there is "no more sorrow, sickness, or death," but all is peace, joy and happiness. On Tuesday night, the 12th inst, at twenty minutes of twelve o'clock, he passed away after having spent a long life on earth of 95 years, 7 months and 12 days. Of Father Mowers, it could truly be said, as of Job of old, "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, te like as a shock of corn cometh ni in his season." The funeral services were held in the M. E. church on Thursday C afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by C the pastor, Rev. C. B. Winter. A large congregation of friends and neighbors w assembled and manifested their respect for the deceased and their sympathy with the relatives in their affliction.
