MRS. GEORGE H. CLARKE
The death of Mrs George Clark, which occurred at an early hour Saturday morning, came as a surprise to many, Although ailing for some time, of late Mrs Clark had been feeling unusually well. Death was due to heart failure, the deceased having had several previous attacks of heart trouble.
Mrs Betsy N Robinson was born in Royalton, Vermont. Sept 10, 1824 and died July 17, 1909, in her 85th year, at the home of her daughter, Mrs D W. Stewart. She was married to George H. Clarke August 6, 1845, to them were born eight children, two of whom, Mrs. D. W Stewart and Mrs J R. Wheeler of Clarion, survive Mr. and Mrs. Clarke were ploneer residents of Wisconsin. On the day of their wedding Mr. and Mrs. Clarke took their departure for the then wild west, locating at Racine. The trip was a long and perilous one, being made for the most part in stage coaches. After spending the winter at Racine they moved still further westward to Fon du Lac, where they settled on a homestead and remained in that vicinity for ten years In the spring of 1856 they moved to Menasha, which place they made their home for thirty-four years. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke became residents of Wright county in 1890 and for the past fourteen years made their home with their daughters. The husband, George H. Clarke, preceded his good wife to the better land five years ago. Since that time Mrs Clarke has made her home with her daughter in Clarion. Early in life Mrs Clarke gave her heart to her Savior. She was a quiet, conscientious and Consistent christian lady being a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was a good wife, mother and friend and nothing more delighted her heart than to render assistance or comfort to a friend or neighbor. Her's was a well spent life and will surely be rewarded by God's richest blessing.
The funeral services were held at the home of D W Stewart Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock in charge of her pastor. Rev W II Spence of the Methodist Episcopal church. The remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery by the side of the departed husband and son.
