DR. H. O. MACK DEAD.
AN HONORED CITIZEN DEPARTED
For His Heavenly Home Sunday Evening at Sun-Down after a Lingering Illness, at the Old Age of 76 Years.
Henry Ousterhout Mack was the son of George Mack and Hannah Ousterbaut Mack, born at Titlin. Richland county, Ohio, Sept. 16th, 1820. He graduated from the Medical department of the Western Reserve University at Cleveland, Ohio on Feb. 24, 1847, and immediately entered upon the practice of medicine with his brother John at Shelby, Ohio. On October 12, 1817 be married Malvina Titus, who died May 8th, 1894. There was born to them four children, the eldest of home, a daughter, Kittie died Jan. 3, 1882 Three sons still living. Soon after the breaking out of the Civil war he became surgeon of the 64 Reg. Vol. where he was in actual service for about one year. On account of ill he was transferred from the field to his home at Mansfield, O., where he served as examining surgeon until the close of the war. He continued the practice of medicine at Mansfield until 1868, when he moved to Benzi county, Michigan with a colony of Congregationalists for the purpose of establishing a seminary.
In 1884 he moved to Clarion, Iowa, where he resided to the time of his death.
He was raised a Presbyterian but later in 1865 he joined the Congrega. tional church.
Dr. Mack as a doctor, a neighbor or a citizen at all times and in all places, enjoyed the respect and confidence of all who knew him. During the thirteen years of his residence in Clarion he made many friends, and he leaves a family of children of whom any man should be proud. For the last few years of his life his health was so poorly thet he gave up the practice of medicine. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church conducted by Rev. Ewell under the auspices of the G. A.R. of which he was an honored member, and his body was followed by sorrowing friends and neighbors to the silent city of the dead.
