Edwin W. Schwenck
7 February 1868 ---- 11 March 1951

Edwin W. Schwenck, son of Hyacinth and Elizabeth Schwenck was born near Lake City, Minn., on February 7, 1868 and passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. August Martfeld on West Fourth Street South Sunday morning, March 11, 1951. At the time of his passing away he was 83 years, one month, and four days of age.

Mr. Schwenck was a member of one of Wright County's pioneer families, coming with his parents to the farm, now operated by Tom Vorre, in the year of 1871. This was ten years before there was an Eagle Grove.

He attended the schools of the community as a boy and worked on the farm, later working on farms in the neighborhood of Goldfield.

Mr. Schwenck never married and as a young man went west, spending a number of years in the state of Washington. Then he worked in a number of trades as a laborer. About 1925 he came to North Dakota where he resided until 1941, coming to Eagle Grove at that time. He made his home here since. He had been quite ill just before coming here and never fully recovered from that illness.

He was lovingly cared for in the home of his sister, Mrs. Martfeld, and his niece Ella Martfeld. No one could have had better care and his passing away came after but a short serious illness.

He was baptized as a child in the German Methodist church, but while living in North Dakota he was converted during special meetings held in the Church of the Nazarene. He joined their fellowship and when he came to Eagle Grove transferred his membership to the Webster City Church of the Nazarene. He loved his church and was found at church and the Sunday School when his health permitted.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. August Martfeld of Eagle Grove and two brothers, John of Luseland, Saskatchewan, Canada and Horace of Livermore, Iowa, besides nieces and nephews. His parents, one sister, Mrs. Theodore Bastian and two brothers, August F. and Charles O. have preceded him in death.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Wilson's Chapel with Rev. James P. Mahan, pastor of the Webster City Church of the Nazarene in charge, he being assisted by Rev. H. G. Dawes of the Methodist church. Interment was on the Schwenck family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.
