Leone Rozella Sanders
21 November 1925 ---- 23 December 1945
Leone Rozella Sanders, the youngest daughter of Roy and Geneva Sanders was born November 21, 1924 on a farm in the Head Grove community. She attended the rural school there and graduated from the Eagle Grove high school with the class of 1943. The following summer she attended the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. For two years she taught the Head Grove school and this year was teaching in Lincoln township and staying with her sister whose husband is in the service.
On Dec. 6 Leone became ill with influenza and while recovering from this was stricken with poliomyelitis, her condition was known to be critical and she was taken immediately to the University Hospital in Iowa City where everything possible was done for her. During her illness she was always very cheerful and did not suffer pain, the last four days being spent in an iron lung. Sunday morning, Dec. 23 she lapsed into unconsciousness at 8:15 and quietly passed away at 8:30 a.m., at the age of 21 years 1 month and 2 days.
Leone was very interested in her school work and watched the progress of her pupils with great pride. She attended the Methodist Sunday School in Eagle Grove and on September 30th of this year she united with the Christian Church of Clarion and was baptized by Rev. Eldon Chitwood.
Besides her grief stricken parents, Leone leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Mrs. Gerald Walsh of Clarion and Lt. Maxine Sanders, an Army Nurse, now located in Tokyo, Japan, one brother, Delmer Sanders of Head Grove, three little nieces, Dianne and Carmen Walsh and Delma Lee Sanders, several aunts and uncles and cousins and a host of friends.
