Hillis Farron Kersey
28 January 1881 ---- 24 June 1966

Hillis Farron Kersey, the son of John S. Kersey and Mary Bowers Kersey, was born near Hubbard in Hardin County, Iowa on January 28, 1881. He passed away at the Eldora Memorial Hospital June 24, 1966 at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Mr. Kersey farmed near Galt, Iowa until 1936 when he moved into town. He was affiliated with the Galt Congregational Church. In 1902 he was married to Almeda Chance at Eldora, Iowa.

Three children were born to this union, Mrs. Melvin (Olive) Jacobson of Manchester, Iowa; Mrs. William (Verda) Appels of West Palm Beach, Florida and one son who passed away in infancy.

Mr. Kersey lived at Galt, Iowa for a number of years and he operated a grocery store there from 1936 to 1946.

His wife passed away at Galt on August 16, 1958 and after that time he spent about 8 months of each year in Eldora with his sister Mrs. Olive Martin and the remaining months in the home of his daughter in Manchester. He was preceded in death by his son, his parents and one brother Caswell Kersey.

Besides his two daughters, Mr. Kersey is survived by one sister, Mrs. C.D. Martin of Eldora; one niece, Mrs. Floyd Crosley of Fremont, Nebraska; one nephew, Wendell Martin of Gifford, Iowa and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Van Hove Funeral Home in Dows . Arrangements were in charge of Longenecker Funeral Home of Eldora.
