Charles Darrell Johnson was born on August 18, 1925, at Algona, Iowa, to Charles Edward and Ethel Kelley Johnson. He grew up and graduated from school at Algona. He was united in marriage to Marcella Madsen at Algona. He worked many years as a truck driver for Umthun Trucking Company in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Following retirement, he worked at the Dollar General Store in Eagle Grove for eight years.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Charles D. Johnson died Friday, August 6, 1999, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion, Iowa, at the age of 73.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella, Eagle Grove; 5 sons, Brian Johnson and wife, Tammy, Altoona, Iowa, Scott Johnson and wife, Jody, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dwight Coleman, Eagle Grove, Dean Coleman, Eagle Grove, and Kevin Coleman and wife, Wendy, Waseca, Minn.; 2 daughters, Lisa Baagoe and husband, Garry, Madrid, Iowa, and Denise Henken and husband, Greg, Forest City, Iowa; 5 sisters, Betty Byrne and husband, Ray, Algona, Shirley Metzger and husband, Robert, Ames, Iowa, Lois Brinkema, Kamrar, Iowa, Ginny Copas, Clear Lake, and Janelle Kickbush, Clear Lake; 3 brothers, Rodney Johnson and wife, Helen, Eagle Grove, Curtis Johnson and. wife, Dee, Grinnell, Robert Johnson and wife, Juanita, Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dorreen Voigt and her husband, John; and a brother, Kenneth Johnson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 10, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Reverends Paul and Susan Stone officiating. Burial was held in the East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Algona at 3 p.m., with Reverend Russell Riemers officiating. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
