Mrs. M. A. Barnes died Sunday morning at four o'clock at her home in east Goldfield after an illness of about five weeks. Death was due directly to pneumonia, and her advanced age. Although not unexpected, her demise has cast a deep shadow of sorrow in the hearts of many friends and in the homes of her relatives. Mrs. Barnes came to this community in its early days and was universally liked and beloved by all that generation and her acquaintance who remember her kindness and goodness of those times.

With her husband she came to Iowa in 1855, locating on the farm now occupied by T. A. Knight, and has ever since been a resident of this vicinity. With her pioneer experience and her widowhood, Mrs. Barnes had many trials to endure, but with her naturally sunny disposition fortified by the power of Christ in the soul she bravely overcame them. She suffered much in her sickness but at the last without a struggle she fell asleep in Jesus. She leaves a pleasant memory behind her.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Artman, preaching. Burial took place in Glenwood cemetery.
