Thomas Johnson, a former Eagle Grove contractor, died Saturday at Waukon after a month's illness. Funeral services were held here on Tuesday afternoon at the East Side Lutheran church and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Thomas Johnson was born February 27, 1885, to parents John and Karie Mathiason at Eiken, Lyngdal, Norway. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed at the age of 15 at Eiken Lutheran church at Lyngdal, Norway, and in 1904 he immigrated to Waterman, Ill., but later moved to Eagle Grove, where he was engaged for a number of years in business. For the last years he lived at Fayette, Iowa.

Mr. Johnson had enjoyed good health, but about a month ago he suffered a heart attack and passed away at his home at Fayette, July 27, 1940, at the age of 55 years, 5 months, and 27 days.

In 1921 he was married to Gladys Lonning of Thor. To this union was born two girls and two boys: Ruben Jean, Catherine Elaine, Thomas, and Robert Johnson. He is survived by his wife, by two daughters, two sons, three brothers, and one sister, living at Eiken, Norway. He is preceded in death by one brother, Ingvald, who lived in Norway.

Mr. Johnson was a peaceful neighbor and a good father and husband. He will be greatly missed by his family and by his many friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Oscar Watne farm, and at the East Side Lutheran church, in charge of Rev. H. S. Fauske. He was laid to rest at Rose Hill cemetery.
