Hans Christensen
29 September 1852 --- 6 January 1940

Hans Christensen was born to the parents, Christian and Marie Nelson, on the island of Langeland, Denmark, September 29, 1852, and passed away from this life at his farm home in Eagle Grove Township Wright county, Saturday morning, Jan. 6th, 1940, at the age of 87 years, 3 months, and 8 days. He was baptized unto Christ and received instruction and confessed his Christian faith in his youth.

In 1873 he came with two of his brothers to America, to the state of Michigan, where he remained about a year coming to Wright county, Iowa, the following year. In 1882 he bought his first farm, which has since been his home until his death. On the 15th of February 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Rasmussen. Mr. and Mrs. Christensen lived on their farm home in the Eagle Grove Township continuously, contributing vitally to the substantial building up of the community. Mrs. Christensen passed away July 28, 1935.

Six sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Christensen, one passed away in infancy, and five now survive their parents: Rasme, living near Garner; James, Frank and George live near Eagle Grove; and Harry lives near Goldfield. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and by one great grandchild. And by two brothers, Rasme Christensen of Omaha, Neb., and Peter Christensen of Wells, Minn.

Mr. Christensen was of a firm and steady character, a kind husband and father, and a good and helpful neighbor. He was a progressive farmer, who gave a distinct contribution to the upbuilding of his community. Because of his impaired eyesight he was confined to his home for a number of years, but he was interested in the wellbeing of his state and nation.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 8th from the home and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. Interment was made in the family lot of the Rose Hill cemetery.
