Nels Peter Jensen
26 September 1855 ---- 12 December 1940

Nels Peter Jensen was born at Korsmo, Drammen, near Oslo, Norway, September 26, 1855, and died in his home at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Thursday afternoon, December 12, 1940, at the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 16 days. He was baptized into Christ, received instruction, and confessed his Christian faith in his youth.

On the 9th of May 1881, he was united in marriage to Miss Karen Amundsen. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Jensen came to America to Monroe, Wisc., where they remained for about one month, then coming to Humboldt county, Iowa, where they lived on their farm home near Thor for about 6 years. In 1888 they moved into Eagle Grove, locating on North Wright Ave., where they have since lived.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jensen, one little boy, Anders, passed away in 1896, at the age of 11 years. Mrs. Jensen died June 15, 1929.

After moving to Eagle Grove, Mr. Jensen was employed by the C. & N. W. R. R. for a number of years. Then he was with the Scott Grain Company for 10 years, and again returned to work with the C. & N. W. R. R. until he retired at the age of 70, viz. 15 years ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Emma, and Jennie Jensen of Eagle Grove, and by two sons, Carl Jensen of Fort Dodge, and Joseph Jensen of Eagle Grove. Also, by five grandchildren, and by one brother still in Norway, Europe and by one sister at Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Jensen was an industrious and dutiful man, a dependable and trustworthy friend. He was thoroughly honest in his duties. A kind husband and father. He knew his Savior Jesus Christ by a firm faith and a personal experience. God's word was to him the final authority in matters of life and conduct. He was a faithful church member, held many important positions in the congregation, was one of the early Sunday School teachers of the congregation, and supported the church with his means as long as he was able.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, December 15, from the home and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. The services were in charge of Rev. T. J. Severtson and burial was at Rose Hill cemetery.
