Funeral services for the late Fred A. Griswold were held Sunday afternoon at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home with the Rev. J. R. Tumbleson and the Rev. W. G. Muhleman of Alden in charge. Mr. Griswold passed away Thursday May 11th after a several months illness. He was ill when he came in from his last run a few months ago. He immediately applied for retirement on the pension, met, and his request was granted. At that time, he was No. 1 on the passenger conductor seniority list. He went to work for the Northwestern as brakeman, July 30, 1898. He was promoted to conductor in the freight service Feb. 7, 1906 and to conductor in passenger service, Dec. 11, 1933.

Obituary

Frederick Alonzo Griswold was born March 4, 1876 at Jessup, Iowa, and died May 11, 1939, at the age of 63 year, 2 months, and 7 days. His early days were spent on his father's farm near Jessup where he attended school. He married Grace Roberts of Littleton, Iowa in 1897. They moved to Eagle Grove a year later where he obtained a position with the Northwestern Railway and continued in the service of the company until a few months previous to his death.

To this union, two children were born, Edward who lives in San Diego, Calif., and Claude who preceded his father in death a few years ago. On Nov. 6, 1922 Mr. Griswold married Mrs. Merle Donegan. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, his son, Edward, and three stepchildren, Beverly, Paul, and Garth.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Eastern Star, and the Order of Railway Conductors. He was also a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services were held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral home Sunday afternoon. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

McArthur, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Richardson and son, Erwin, all of Elmore, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Downing and Curtis Halverson of Blue Earth, Minn.; Mrs. M. F. Stanton, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Stanton, Mr. and Mrs. Will Stabenow, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Merfield, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price, Leo Downing, and Mrs. Lydia Downing, of Greene.
