Obituary of Mrs. C. E. Hovrud
The following obituary was taken from the Watford Guide, a North Dakota paper. Mrs. Hovrud was a former resident of this community and had many friends who will regret to hear of her departure. Mrs. C. E. Hovrud passed away on Monday afternoon at her home east of Shafer, N. Dak. She had been ailing about a year and a half when death relieved her patient suffering. Christina Bergland was born Dec. 12, 1877, in Winnebago County. On February 26, 1902 she was united in marriage to Carl E. Hovrud. To this union five children were born, two of whom preceded their mother in death. The deceased is survived by her husband and three children: Gusta, a student at the State Teachers College at Minot, N. Dak.; Orville and Eleanore at home. A sister, Mrs. Theo Anderson of Joice, Iowa and a brother, Ole N. Bergland, of Lake Mills, Iowa, also survive her. The funeral will be held Thursday at 1 o’clock from the house and 2 o’clock from the church, Rev. O. J. Malkewick officiating. Mrs. Hovrud was a woman of fine Christian character, an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. In her passing the bereaved ones lost a loving wife, mother and neighbor.
