13 May 1942Longtime Resident of Rodney Passes
Rodney, Ia. Special: John Patterson, 87, oldest resident of Rodney, died at his home here of a heart attack.
Mr. Patterson was born January 6, 1875, in Wayne City, Ill., and later moved to Vail, Ia., where he engaged in the livestock business. He was married there.
Mr. and Mrs. Patterson moved to Beemer, Neb., and then to Charter Oak, Ia. He came here later and bought stock and operated the elevator for the Atlas Grain company. He was assessor for several years, giving up that position about seven years ago when his eyesight became poor.
Mrs. Patterson died two years ago. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Deedie Conner of San Juan, Tex., Mrs. Zella Werling of Rodney and Mrs. Cora Steinhoff of near here; one son, Albert of LeMars; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Congregational church here with burial in the Smithland cemetery.
