Two Omahans Die in Collision of Truck and Auto

Bennington, Neb: - (P) - Two Omahans were killed and seven persons injured late Monday in the collision of a truck and an automobile at the intersection of highways 8 and 31 four miles west of here.

The dead are D. A. Kelso, 75, and Beverly Elving, 15.

The injured are Mrs. Kelso, 45; Betty Emley, 14, Elk City; James Hines, about 42, Omaha; Evelyn Carlson, about 33, Omaha; J. J. O'Connor, 56, Pomeroy, Ia.; O'Connor's son, Jack, and Miss Blanche Adams, about 34, Pomeroy.

The O'Connors and Miss Adams were in the truck, loaded with dismantled grain bins and headed for Hays, Kan. The car was en route to Elk City.

Former Resident Killed in Crash of Car and Truck

BEVERLY ELVING, 15, one of two persons killed Monday night when a truck and an automobile collided near Bennington, Neb., was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl A. Elving of Omaha, former Sioux Cityans.

The Elvings formerly lived at 1329 25th street.
About 11 years ago they left here for Chicago. About four years ago they moved to Omaha.

Surviving besides the parents are three brothers, Earl Blair Elving, United States marine corps; Richard A. and Robert L., both of Omaha; a grandfather, S. L. Blair, and a grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Elving, both of Sioux City.

Funeral services for Beverly Elving, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elving of Omaha, former Sioux Cityans, one of two persons killed in a truck-automobile Monday night west of Bennington, Neb., will be at 10 a. m. Friday in Omaha.

Another service will be held at 2:30 p. m. in the Westcott-Doughty-Chandler chapel here. Interment will be in Graceland Park cemetery.

Order Inquest in Death of Former Sioux City Girl

Omaha.- An inquest will be held Tuesday into the deaths of two persons in a car-truck crash near Bennington, Neb., Deputy County Attorney Paul Steinwender said Thursday.

Killed in the crash Monday were Daniel A. Kelso, 77, Omaha, and Beverly Elving, 15, of Omaha and formerly of Sioux City.

Four persons injured in the accident are still in hospitals here. They are Betty Emley, 14, Elk City; Mrs. Rose Kelso, Mrs. Evelyn Carlson, and James Hines, all of Omaha.

Jury Recommends No Charge in Death of Sioux City Girl

Omaha. (P) A coroner's jury recommended Tuesday that no charges be pressed against J. J. O'Connor of Pomeroy, la., driver of a truck involved in an automobile accident last week in which two persons were killed.

Victims of the accident were D. A. Kelso, Omaha, and Beverly Elving, Omaha, formerly of Sioux City.

Settlement in Expensive Auto Accident Case

Omaha. - (P) A settlement agreed to by litigants was approved Friday by Federal District Judge James A. Donohoe as to three plaintiffs in damage actions resulting from a truck-automobile collision in which two persons were killed and four injured near Elk City last June 22.

Lee H. Forsyth of West Liberty, Ia. who has a government contract for hauling materials, and L. H. O'Connor of Pomeroy, Ia. subcontractor and driver of the truck, are to pay James Hines $6,000; Rose Kelso $7,500 and Evelyn Carlson $4,500.

In the proces of settlement are claims of three other passengers in Betty Emley, seriously injured; Beverly Elving, killed, and Don A. Kelso, killed.
