Kermit Henry Lee, 105, of Sloan, Iowa, passed Friday, August 16, 2024, at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

A memorial mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with Reverend Father Shinoj Jose, celebrant, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home Website with Kermit’s obituary. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa, with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and George Nelson American Legion Post #662, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments.

Kermit Lee was born October 1, 1918, in Cottonwood, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Cora (Olson) Lee. He grew up on a farm around the Albaton area. When he was younger, he liked to swim and ice skate. Kermit attended country school near Albaton, Sloan High School, and graduated from the American High School in Chicago, Illinois. He then completed two years of vocational agriculture school, after being discharged from the United States Air Force.

Kermit proudly served forty-six months in the United States Air Force, during World War II. He was in the South Pacific Islands for 32 months, with the 5th and 13th Air Force. He was honorably discharged on January 8, 1946.

Kermit and Elaine Uhl were united in marriage on May 18, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa. Elaine passed away February 7, 1973. He later married Lucille Hubert, who later passed away February 5, 2005.

He spent his entire life farming in the Sergeant Bluff and Sloan areas for over forty years and retired in 1984. Kermit also worked for the Woodbury County Assessor doing personal property assessing in Woodbury and Floyd Township for over twenty-one years.

He enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and dancing.

Kermit served on the Liberty Township Agriculture Stabilization, the conservation board for twenty years, was a director on the Farmers Drainage District for ten years, served eleven years as the secretary for the Farmers and Garretson Drainage District, and the secretary of the Farmers CO-OP Elevator for nine years, in Salix, Iowa.

Kermit was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa. He was also a member of the George Nelson American Legion Post #662, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, for seventy-eight years.

Survivors include his son, Dennis Lee of Sioux City, Iowa; step-children, Janeen (Jens) Jorgensen of North Liberty, Iowa, Cindy White of Grimes, Iowa, and Mike (Ann Thomas) Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; son-in-law, Jim Baumann of El Paso, Texas; step son-in-law, Tim Hoover of Des Moines, Iowa; step-daughter-in-law, Chinh Smith of O’Fallon, Missouri; grandson, James R. Baumann of Ruidoso, New Mexico; two great-grandsons; seventeen step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Cora (Olson) Lee; two wives, Elaine (Uhl) Lee, and Lucille (Hubert) Lee; daughter, Mari Kay Nanz; sisters, Opal Copple, Myrtle Schmidt, and Gladys Anderson; brothers, Merlin Lee, Clifford Lee, Ardele Lee, and Infant Dale Lee; sons-in-law, Pete Nanz and Ronnie Vaughan; and step-children, Gloria (Keith) Jordan, Ginger Hoover, and Stan Smith.
