December 8, 1941 - March 22, 2024

SIOUX CITY - Jane S. Rapp, 82, of Sioux City Iowa and formerly of South Sioux City Nebraska, died at Bickford Cottage on Friday, March 22, 2024 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her Celebration of Life will be at 10:30am Saturday, April 13, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Reverend Beth Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00pm-7:00pm Friday, April 12, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church with the family present at that time. A private family burial will be at the Ponca City Cemetery, Ponca, Nebraska. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Jane was born December 8, 1941 in Scottsbluff NE, to William and Elisabeth (Talbert) Skinner. She was the middle of three daughters and lived in Scottsbluff until her graduation from Scottsbluff High School in 1959. From there she continued her education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was an education major. She was active in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and other campus activities. It was at UNL where she met the love of her life, Ronald D. Rapp.

Jane married Ron on August 25, 1963 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The newly married couple relocated briefly to Biloxi Mississippi where Ron was stationed for the 185th Air National Guard. After their time in Biloxi, they moved back to Nebraska and made their home in South Sioux City where they raised their two sons. Before the arrival of their oldest, Jane accepted a teaching contract for the Sioux City Community School District where she taught Spanish at Hoover Middle School for one year. She devoted herself to becoming a full time homemaker and mother after that until her children were older. From there she held various positions within the community including church secretary at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, office manager at Atokad Park, counselor at South Sioux City Junior High School and outpatient counselor at UnityPoint (formally St. Lukes).

Jane served on the South Sioux City Board of Education for 16 years. While on the board, she served in all local offices as well as served on several committees for the Nebraska Association of School Boards. She also served the Cardinal Educational Foundation for over 25 years, was a church Deacon as well as Elder and handbell director at First Presbyterian Church of South Sioux City, was a founding member and chapter president of PEO Chapter GX, a member of the Red Hat Society and Choralation of Siouxland.

Jane had a great love of many things. Her family was her first and foremost passion. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and following them in their activities. Other hobbies included entertaining, travel, train riding, boating, reading, puzzles, Dominoes, Bridge, and relaxing on her deck watching the river go by. All of these paled in comparison to her love and dedication to Nebraska Football. Her social calendar was often dictated by the Husker football schedule.

Jane is survived by two sons George (Amy) Rapp of Pataskala, OH and Robert (Michelle) Rapp of South Sioux City, NE; grandchildren Eric (Hannah) Rapp of Sioux Falls SD, Alex (Lacey) Rapp of Harrisburg, SD, Katie Rapp of Pataskala, OH, Zachary Rapp of South Sioux City, NE, and Linus and Ian Rapp of Pataskala, OH; great grandchildren, Kamden, Blaine, Cora, Brody, Kendra and Carsten Rapp; sister Sarah Trumbull, nephews and nieces, Bill (Cheryl) Trumbull and family, Jim (Brenda) Trumbull and family, Ann (Frans) deJong and family, Jack (Kristi) Baker and family and Libby (Carlo) Holmes and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, her parents, her sister Ann Baker, brothers-in-law John Baker and Carr Trumbull and great granddaughter, Kinley Rapp.

Special thanks to Heart of Siouxland Senior Care for their help with Jane before she moved to Bickford Cottage Memory Care, the caring staff at Bickford Cottage Memory Care and finally Hospice of Siouxland and especially Tyler for his compassion and care during her last couple of days.
