ABANDON ELEVATED RAILWAY
~
Sioux City, April 4th. – The Sioux City Traction Co. Elevated Railway is to be abandoned for the greater part of its length this summer. The tracks will be lowered to the surface and the massive iron and steel superstructure used to build a viaduct across a network of tracks on one of the company’s lines. The elevated line was built in 1890, when the cities boom was at its height and almost untold of projects were set on foot without a bit of hesitancy about their outcome. When the line was built it was the third of its kind in the world and it was regularly exhibited as a curiosity to the thousands of investors who were attracted here.
