OBITUARY.
C. J. TAMNES.
After an illness of several months, C. J.
Tamnes, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Hesper, Iowa, died Thursday morning, Nov. 11th.
Mr. Tamnes was born in Röros, Norway in 1831. He came to this country in 1856 and on July 15, 1862, was married to Miss Mary Berg of Spring Grove Minn. They located on a farm four miles east of Hesper, living there one and one-half years, then moved to Hesper, where they have since resided.
From 1866 to 1877 Mr. Tamnes engaged in blacksmithing, first in partnership with Mr. Reynolds and afterwards with Mr. Folstad. For several years, from 1877, Mr. Tamnes engaged in the hardware business with F. P. Jones, first at Hesper and later at Mabel, Minn., and after selling his interest in the business he engaged in the pump business until he felt that he must retire from active labor.
Mr. Tamnes was a good neighbor, a loving husband and father and a loyal citizen. He was actively interested in everything for the uplift of our community. He leaves to mourn his loss a loving and devoted wife, a daughter, Mrs. P. N. Brothen of East Grand Forks, Minn., and four grandchildren. His wife, daughter, one granddaughter and a little grandson were with him when the end came. The funeral services were held at Hesper Nov. 13th at the Norwegian church of which Mr. Tamnes was a member. Rev. Rasmussen of Mabel officiated.
We express our sincere thanks for the sympathy and kindness shown during the illness and death of our husband and father.
MR{S.} C. J. Tamnes,
MRS. LOUISA BROTHEN AND CHILDREN.
