Sister Mary Barbarina passed to her reward at the convent of the Sisters of St. Francis at New Prague, Minn., on Tuesday morning, March 24th. Consumption was the cause of her death. Sister Barbarina (nee Helen Houdek) was born in this town Nov. 1, 1891, and here she spent her girlhood days. Nov. 22, 1906, she entered St. Joseph’s convent at Milwaukee, Wis. For the last three years she has been at New Prague, but for the past year she has been unable to teach owing to her ill health. Her condition being so serious her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Houdek, were called for and reached there on Monday, the day before her death. She is also survived by her grandmother, three brothers, Carl, Leonard and Freddie, of this place, and one sister, Mrs. J. H. Huinker of Calmar. The funeral took place from St. Wenceslaus church on Thursday at 9 o’clock. Solemn Requiem High Mass was entoned by Rev. J. K. Cermak, assisted by Rev. J. F. Gleason and Rev. W. J. Jiracek of Verseli. Interment was made at the catholic cemetery. Twelve young ladies of the Immaculate Conception Sodality were the pall bearers and honorary pall bearers. The entire community sympathizes with the bereaved ones in their sorrow.
