OBITUARY
KIRSCHMAN.
Christian Kirschman was born the 24th day of October, 1827 at Holsmauden, Germany, and died the first day of November, 1918, near Ridgeway, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one years and seven days.
Mr. Kirschman was born and raised in the Evangelical Lutheran church. In 1852 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Weber; to this union eleven children were born, eight of whom are yet living.
In 1854 Mr. Kirschman came to America and landed at Utica, New York; from there he soon after moved to Utica township, Chickasaw county, Iowa, and latter{sic} to Jacksonville township, Chickasaw county.
In 1891 his wife died and left him with eight children, mostly grown up. The last eight years he made his home with his son John near Ridgeway, Ia.
He leaves to mourn his demise three sons, five daughters, thirty-nine grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
His children are William of Sioux Falls, S. D., John of Ridgeway, Christian and Mrs. Lottie Heimiller of Wadena, Minn., Mrs. Lizzie Smith of Pierpont, S. D., Mrs. Rachel Butz of Woonsocket, S. D., Mrs. Barbara Webster and Mrs. Mary Sherwood both of Los Angeles, California. Charles, Henry and Sophia who have preceded him.
The funeral services were held at the German Methodist church, Rev. R. L. Hertel preached a very fine sermon from the book of Micah, the second chapter and the tenth verse. “Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.”Source: Cresco Plain Dealer Nov. 8, 1918, LP C1
A number of our people attended the funeral of Grandpa Kirschman Monday afternoon.- -
Grandpa Kirschman died at the home of his son., J. G. Kirschman, last week Fridy afternoon at the advanced age of ninety-one years.- -
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Butz arrived from Woonsocket, S. D., last week Saturday to attend the funeral of Grandpa Kirschman.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in the Butz German Methodist Cemetery in Winneshiek County.
