O. W Emery, father of Mrs. M. Askelson, northeast of Cresco, died Saturday. The funeral was held at the home Tussday{sic} morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. Shoemaker officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nelson, who were here to attend the funeral of the latter’s father, O. W. Emery, returned Wednesday to their home at Decorah.

An Old Settler Gone.
On March 9, 1918, after a severe and protracted illness, O. W. Emery at the age of 88 years, 5 months, 10 days died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mons Askelson.
Mr. Emery was born in Ashtabula county, Ohio, Sept. 27th, 1829 and came to Winneshiek Co., Iowa, in 1849 and settled in Canoe township where he lived till 1896 when he moved to Decorah.
He was married to Martha McIntyre, July 11, 1852, and to this union fifteen children were born. John, who died at the age of 30 years, Mary and Josiah who died in infancy, Leonard of Mildred, Ia., Aaron of Decorah, Ia., Mrs. F. L. Cameron, of Salem, S. D., Mrs. Geo. Stockoff, of Ransom, Kas., Mrs. Mons Askelson, of Cresco, Ia., Mrs. Nels Nelson of Decorah, Ezra, Andrew, Mrs. Robt. McMullen, Earnest, George and Frank of Canada.
There remain to mourn the loss of a kind husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, his feeble wife who is helpless having suffered a stroke of paralysis, Dec. 18, 1912, his 12 children, 38 grandchlildren, 36 great grandchildren one sister of Nebraska, two brothers of Kansas, and one half sister of Kansas City.
Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday, March 12, 1818{sic}, in charge of Rev. G. M. Shoemaker of Ridgeway. The remains were taken to Burr Oak where short services were held by Rev. B. C. Supplee, and the body was laid to rest in the Burr Oak cemetery.
