Darrel Hager age 83 of Decorah, IA passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Barthell O.E.S Home in Decorah.

There are no formal services planned for Darrel at this time. His burial will be at Eastern Star Cemetery in Aline, Oklahoma, at a later date.

Born to Olin and Edna (Grove) Hager on September 13, 1940, in Aline, OK, Darrel was the oldest of four children. Raised in Aline, Darrel graduated from Aline High School in May of 1958.

He married Mildred “Millie” Upton on June 5, 1960, and raised a family of five children while primarily living in Kansas. Darrel and Millie returned to Enid in 1995 and moved to Decorah in 2019.

Darrel received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education from Oklahoma State University in 1966. Darrel spent his professional career as an Agricultural Education instructor/FFA Advisor, a County Extension/4-H Agent, various positions in agricultural sales, and later in life worked for Athey Lumber in Enid.

Darrel never met a stranger and there was not a job he couldn’t do. He was often doing “odd jobs” for his children and grandchildren. And during retirement he designed and built custom cabinetry.

Darrel had a strong faith and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Enid and attended Stone Ridge Community Church while in Decorah.

Darrel is survived by four of his children, Sherri Hager (Shawn Reed) of Aurora, CO; Jeff Hager of Oro Valley, AZ; Mark (Darla) Hager, of Enid, OK; and Stacey (Chris) Irwin of Decorah; 11 grandchildren; and three great grandsons. He is also survived by his brother Norman Hager of Enid, OK; his sister, Connie Hager of Bettendorf, IA; and his brother Doyce (Rachel) Hager of Cherokee, OK; his brother-in-law, Samuel (Valerie) Upton of Shawnee, OK; sisters-in-law Loretta (Jim) Spleth of Enid, OK; and Rebekah (Jim) Thompson, of Marietta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darrel was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Hager; oldest son, John Hager; his father, Olin Hager; his mother, Edna (Grove) Hager; and his in-laws, Thomas Upton; Mildred Dixon; Wayne Robinson; and Dwight Dixon.
