Jenine Jordahl age 88 of Decorah, IA, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Mary's in Rochester with family by her side.

All are welcome to attend a prayer service for Jenine at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at First Lutheran Church. A reception will follow in the basement.

A Celebration of her Life will be at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA on Monday, June 10th at 2pm. Visitation will be from 1pm until the time of the service Monday at the church.

Burial will be at Country Coon Prairie Cemetery in Westby, WI on Tuesday, June 11th at 10:30am

Jenine Peterson Jordahl, born in Graceville, MN., graduated from Ortonville, MN High School and Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. She worked as Director of Parish Education at Our Saviors Lutheran church, Montevideo, Director of Parish Education and Youth at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran, Edina and Director of Student Activities at Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN.

June 12, 1965, she married Paul N. Jordahl. Six weeks later they began their work in Papua New Guinea. Paul was called by The American Lutheran Church to serve as Headmaster and Chaplain of Bumayong High School, and Jenine taught full time. After returning to the U.S, they lived in Janesville, WI for one year before Paul accepted a call to Westby Coon Prairie and Vang Lutheran churches, Westby, WI.

Jenine was elected to roles of leadership in American Lutheran Church Women, Women of the ELCA and as first Vice President of the LaCrosse [WI] Area Synod. She was employed by Bethel Home and Services as Director of Social Services, a position from which she retired in 2002. Paul and Jenine were blessed with 2 children, Erik and Kari, and six grandchildren.

Jenine enjoyed her part time retirement job as Parish Visitor and Volunteer Coordinator at First Lutheran Church, Decorah, IA. She was energized by people, music, travel and especially her beloved grandchildren. She treasured her life and partnership with Paul. Many friends from around the world blessed her life. She counted it a privilege to learn and grow throughout her life.

Jenine is survived by her son Erik [Ann] and her daughter Kari [Jon] Tollefson; her grandchildren, Leah, Maren, Jonah Tollefson, Tugg, Solveig Marles, Lily Slanga; brother and sister-in-law, as well as many loving extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, May 17, 2010, parents: Julian and Esther [Eriksen] Peterson, several aunts and uncles, brother in laws, sister in laws and nephews and a niece.
