Clinton "CJ" Frana, age 73, of Calmar, Iowa died on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at his home in Decorah.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Calmar.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, Wednesday morning at the church.

Clinton was born February 4th, 1950, to Clinton and Irene (Gesing) Frana.

He graduated from South Winneshiek High School. He furthered his education at Area One in Calmar for agricultural business. Clinton spent his life farming in rural Calmar. He milked, had beef cows, and crop farmed. Clinton was meticulous in the care of his vehicles and farming equipment, with his most treasured piece being his semi. He was a true steward of the land he farmed, with the help of his secondhand man, Darryl Frana. They farmed together for 47 years. Clinton also had a love for horses and going on trail rides. He spent a few years camping in Prairie Du Chien and traveled with his motorhome. During the winters, he headed south to Arizona with his significant other, Dorthy Shaw of Edgewood. In Arizona, Clinton and Dorthy met many new friends and delighted in cards, various games, and going out to eat. He continued to keep in touch with friends from Arizona and neighboring states, even while back home farming. Clinton and Dorthy spent many mornings at the fitness center walking. Clinton moved off of the farm into a condo in Decorah in June. He enjoyed being interviewed by Machinery Pete prior to his farm equipment sale. Clinton cherished the relationships he made with local coops, equipment and seed dealers, and all of the others who assisted in the success of his farming operation.

Clinton was a kind, caring, and gentle man. He was very strong in his Catholic faith. He endured a tough battle with lung cancer, and he was thankful to spend his final days in his condo, made possible by the loving care from Dorthy and Darryl.

Clinton is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Darryl and Karen Frana, Dorthy Shaw, and their families.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses from Gundersen who treated him during his cancer battle, WinnMed Hospice who provided end of life care, and all of the neighbors and friends who supported them in any way.
