OBITUARY.
C. B. Lennon, who for thirty years has been known to the people of Decorah and many parts of the country as a buyer of grain and live stock and a dealer in coal, passed away Sunday evening at midnight, the cause of death being quick consumption following a decline in health that extended over the past year.
Charles Benjamin Lennon was born January 5, 1852, in Racine, Wis. In the year 1855 he came with his parents to Frankville township, this county, and there grew to manhood. Besides working as a farmer he also engaged in school teaching, but on coming to Decorah thirty years ago engaged in business and continued until a little less than a year ago, when he sold his interests to his partner, John Stoskopf, and George H. Baker. He was one of a family of eleven children and is survived by one brother Joseph, and five sisters, the latter being as follows: Miss Emily Lennon and Mrs. Jane Sherry of Decorah, Mrs. Mary Bryne of Legraff, Minn., Mrs. Katherine Kerren of Menominie, Mis, and Sister M. F. Caracciola of Prairie de Chien. Mr. Lennon was a man of genial, courteous disposition, well informed and a pleasant companion. One who knew him intimately tells us that during a long acquaintance he not only had little to say for himself, but never discussed others in a derogatory way, nor had he ever heard him use a profane word or an oath. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of Hugh Sherry, Rev. Wellington McVettie officiating, the Masonic bodies being in charge. Interment was made at Phelps cemetery. Among those present at the funeral was Mr. Griesemer representing the Gerstenberg Grain Co of Chicago, with whom Mr. Lennon dealt with for many years.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone shows he was born in 1851 which does not agree with the above.
