The death of Mrs. Joseph Doubek, one of our highly respected residents, occurred at her home Sunday morning, Jan. 12, after an illness of short duration. Mrs. Mary Humpal Doubek was born in Bohemia, March 24, 1851, where her early life was spent. When eleven eyars old she with her parents came to this country, settling in Calmar township. In 1868 she was united in marriage with Joseph Doubek, after which they settled on their farm north of this place. About nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. Doubek removed to this city to spend their declining years. To Mr. and Mrs. Doubek were born seven children, two of which are deceased, one having died in infancy and Mrs. Barbara Houdek, who preceded her mother in death seven eyars ago. The surviving members of the family are her husband, her sons Joseph of Cold Springs Minn., James of this place and Frank of Lourdes, and her daughters, Mrs. Mike Puffer of Jackson township and Mrs. Frank Puffer of this place. She is also survived by two brothers, Jos. Humpal who resides in South Dakota, and Frank Humpal of near Spillville, and one sister, Mrs. john Dvorak of Voss, N. D. The funeral was held on Wednesday from St. John’s church, with interment in the Catholic cemetery, Rev. Dragoun officiated. The pall bearers were her six nephews, Frank and John Humpal of Conover, Jos. Doubek of Calmar, Ed., John and Adolph Doubek of this place. Mrs. Doubek was a true and loyal member of her church and also of the Rosary society. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and her death will be keenly felt by all. The floral offerings were exceedingly beautiful. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. joseph Dvorak, son and daughter, Mrs. Paterka of Voss, N. D., Frank Humpal and wife and John Humpal of Conover, Frank and Joseph Luzum and wives of Calmar, Jos. Ptachek and wife of Spillville. The numerous friends of the Doubek family sympathize with them in their sorrow.
