Old Settlers Passing Away.
This week records the death of two more old settlers and aged residents of this county.
MRS. PHILIP PFISTER, SR.
On Sunday last Mrs. Margaret Pfister, wife of Philip Pfister, Sr., of Locust, died in her 80th year. Her maiden name was Margaret Riehl and she was born March 18, 1819, at Hochfrankenheim, Alsace. On Oct. 31st, 1844, she was married to Philip Pfister, and they emigrated to the United States in 1854, landing in New York State April 26th. Four months later they moved to Stratford, Canada, and after eight months camo to Iowa, locating in this county near Locust, April 26th, 1855. The family home has since been been. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pfister, the youngest son dying in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Kate Young, dying in July last. The remaining children are Geo. A., Jacob and Margaret Pfister, and Mrs. Chas. Falck, who with the father and husband remain to mourn her loss. One who knew her well and could speak from experience says of her.
Mrs. Pfister was a true wife and mother, and one of the pioneers of the county. She was a great help to her husband, being a woman of large mental capacity and an untiring worker for church and school, doing everything in her power to raise her children to respectable man- and womanhood.
The funeral was held yesterday, Rev. Seehuus officiating.
