A Fatal Race.
Oelwein, July 6.—Joseph Wood, one of the city firemen, was injured by being run over in a hose race between this city and Independence July 4th, died this morning of his injuries. He was a popular young business man and his injuries and death produced a profound impression in the city.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 6, 1852 and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery in Oelwein.
