Diphtheria and Death.
The unfortunate father referred to in the following clipping from the Spring Grove Herald, is Nels N. Larsen, formerly in business in this city, and son of Hon. Nels Larsen, of Highland township:—
As we go to press news reaches us of the the{sic} sad and untimely death of Nels Larson and his youngest child near Highlandville. The child succumbed to a malignant form of diphtheria on Sunday last, on which day Nels Larson, the father, was stricken with the same disease from which he also died on Wednesday, Dec. 29. Mr. Larson was about thirty years of age and leaves a wife and three children to mourn his early and unexpected demise. The afflicted widow and children have the sympathy of all in their irreparable loss.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Dec. 26, 1867 and died Dec. 28, 1897. He is buried in Highland Cemetery. His gravestone shows his name spelled Nils Larson. It also shows the child was Julia who was born in 1894.
