Dennis P. Allen, age 55 of Oelwein, Iowa and formerly of Belmont, California, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein following a long illness.

Private family services will be held at a later date. His body has been cremated and in accordance with his wishes, his remains will be scattered near Big Sur, California.

Memorials may be directed to Heart of Iowa Hospice, 200 Jefferson Street, West Union, Iowa 52175.

Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Dennis Patrick Allen was born October 24, 1950 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Philip Royal and Helen Margaret (Stence) Allen. He attended Regina High School in Iowa City, Iowa and graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School in Ossian, Iowa with the Class of 1969. Denny later graduated from Rochester, MN Junior College with a degree in marketing.

Denny lived in the San Francisco Bay area of California for many years and worked at several Silicon Valley companies, including Syntex Labs, Netscape and Gilead Sciences. He retired in 2004 and returned to Iowa to be near his family. Denny loved the outdoors, including camping and river rafting. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard and was an avid major league baseball fan.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Kay (Bill) Judd of Oelwein, IA, two brothers, Douglas (Karen) Allen of Marshalltown, IA and David (Jolene) Allen of LaGrange, GA; eight nieces and nephews, Bill (Mary Ann) Judd of Decorah, IA, Philip (Alyssa) Judd, Patrick Judd and Meggan Judd, all of Clinton, IA, Caitlyn and Quinn Allen of Marshalltown, IA and Sean and Jason Allen of LaGrange, GA; five great nieces and nephews, Jonathan Judd, Jessica Judd, Haleigh Parr, Michael Judd and Alexander Judd.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
