Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Clara S. Forde, age 98, of Decorah, Iowa were held Thursday, January 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Pastor Philip Larson conducted the services. Burial was in the church cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Richard Bakken, David Forde, James Forde, Leslie Forde, Robert Forde, Ernest Gavle, Richard Hammel, Donald Johnson, Gene Johnson, and Lyle Klemish.
Clara Sofie, daughter of Ole and Ida (Amondson) Slindee, was born February 16, 1891 in Decorah, Iowa. She attended rural Allamakee County schools. On February 16, 1916 she married John O. Forde in Waukon, Iowa. He died August 28, 1937. She was a member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid and church circles. She was a lifetime resident of the Allamakee and Winneshiek Iowa counties.
Clara Sofie Forde died Monday, January 8, 1990 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son Floyd Forde who died in infancy; 3 sisters, Selma, Amanda, and Florence; and 3 brothers, Everett Frances Slindee, Carl O. Slindee, and Helmer Sanford Slindee.
Clara is survived by a daughter, Inez (Theodore) Gjere of Decorah, Iowa and 5 sons, Omer John Forde and Arlin Forde, also of Decorah, Iowa, Merle Forde of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Forrest Forde of Center Point, Iowa, and Gordon Forde of Missoula, Montana; 10 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Alfred Mervin Slindee of Decorah, Iowa and Harris Kenneth Slindee of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; and 2 sisters, Emma Olivia Hanson of Great Falls, Montana, and Irene Orella Johnson of Waukon, Iowa.
