Robert Mickelson, 72, Duncombe, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe with Rev. David Deckard officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at 1 p.m. Friday at the Washington Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Lou, daughter Joan and her husband Ron Reding of Mason City, and daughter Janet Mickelson of Ames; a son Clifford and wife Dawn Mickelson of Duncombe, his mother Serena Mickelson of Duncombe, four brothers, Donald Mickelson of Duncombe, Paul Mickelson of Lehigh, Richard Mickelson of Cedar Rapids and Leonard Mickelson of Duncombe. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his four grandchildren, Katie and Frank Reding of Mason City, Maria and Jayna Mickelson of Duncombe. He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Mickelson, an infant son, Steven, a brother, Selmer Mickelson, and an infant sister, Marlene Mickelson.

Robert Mickelson was born August 27, 1928 in Duncombe and later graduated from Duncombe High School. He then joined the United States Air Force during World War II. After the service, he worked at the Farmers Elevator in Duncombe and in 1950 he started farming with his father and brothers. On May 12, 1951 he married Mary Lou Russell in Fort Dodge. After their marriage, the couple made their home near Duncombe. He retired from farming in 1992.

He was a member of the Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. Memorials may be directed to the Washington Lutheran Church or the Hospice of Fort Dodge.
