Mrs. Parle, the former Anna Teresa Hogan, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hogan, who settled in Webster county in pioneer days. Mrs. Hogan, before her marriage was Miss Mary Williams.

Mrs. Parle's parents were married August 31, 1857 in a building used as a church across from the present Corpus Christi church site, now occupied by the recently-built Corpus Christi parish center.

Anna Teresa Hogan was the second of their eight children. She was born Nov. 6, 1860 in a log house on the site now numbered as 805 third avenue north, a block south of the present Corpus Christi church.

In 1868 the family moved to a homestead five miles east of town, now located on highway 20. In those days farm work was done with the aid of oxen and Indians still roamed through the area. Mrs. Parle's father frequently made trips to Iowa Falls by ox-drawn wagon to secure supplies. Iowa Falls was then the railroad terminal and Fort Dodge was only a village of log houses clustered around the general vicinity of the present Wahkonsa school.

Her marriage to John T. Parle, of Maryville, MO, took place Aug. 24, 1889, in Corpus Christi church. The late Rev. Thomas M. Lenihan performed the marriage service.

The couple settled first in Maryville. In 1899 they moved to a farm east of Fort Dodge in Webster county, where they continued to live until 1934. At that time they retired from farming and moved into Fort Dodge.

About five years ago they went to Dubuque and since that time had made their home in St. Anthony's home for the aged there.

In August of 1939 they observed their golden wedding anniversary with a solemn high mass at Sacred Heart church here. Last August they observed their 60th anniversary at Dubuque.

In failing health for the past two years, Mrs. Parle became seriously ill on Christmas day and entered Dubuque Mercy hospital as a medical patient. Her condition grew steadily worse and on Jan. 17 she was transferred to Mercy hospital here by ambulance.

Surviving her are her husband and three sons, The Rev. Thomas Parle of Oyens, Harry V. Parle of Omaha, Neb., and Faber A. Parle of Fort Dodge. A sister, Mrs. William Powers of Fort Dodge, two brothers, John F. Hogan who resides on the Hogan family homestead east of the city, and Patrick M. Hogan, also of Fort Dodge. Ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

Her parents, two sons, John and Patrick who died in infancy, three sisters, Catherine, Margaret and Nellie; and a brother, James Hogan, preceded her in death. Four grandchildren also preceded her in death. They were Howard Raymond Parle, Doris Ann Parle, Angela Phyllis Parle and John Parle, who died in Bizerte during World War II as a result of injuries he suffered in action at Locata, Sicily, during the invasion of Sicily.

Submitter's note: Mrs. John T. Parle is my great-grandmother.
