Intestate Document for William S. Mathews

Know all Men by these Presents, That we, Samuel Cocklin as principal, and R.P. Lewis as sureties, all of the county of Washington in the state of Iowa, are held and firmly bound unto the country aforesaid, and to all persons herein concerned, in the penal sum of Four hundred Dollars, for the payment of which, well and truly to be made, we do jointly and severally bind ourselves, and our lawful representatives. Witness our hands and seals, this 6th day of July 1861.

THE CONDITION OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATION IS SUCH, Whereas, the above named Samuel Cocklin was on this day appointed by the County Court of said county, sitting as a Court of Probate Administrator of the estate of William S. Mathews deceased, late of said county, who died intestate on or about the 17th day of June 1861, to administer all and singular his goods and chattels, moneys, rights and credits according to law.

Now if the said Samuel Cocklin shall discharge all the duties which are or may hereafter be required of him by law as such Administrator, then these presents to be void or otherwaise remain in full force and effect of law.
