Peter Gad Watson
(February 7, 1859 – August 29, 1940)Stroke Fatal To P. G. Watson; Funeral Friday
Just five weeks to the day after the death of his wife, P. G. Watson, 81, a member of the firm of Watson Bros., coal dealers, died at his home, 209 South Fourth Street, Thursday morning at 4 o’clock. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon, Aug. 30, at 2 o’clock at the Overton Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Fisher, pastor of the Nazarene Church, Des Moines, assisted by the Rev. J. Lewis Bowser, pastor of the First Baptist Church.
Suffered A Stroke
Mr. Watson suffered a stroke between 6 and 7 o’clock Wednesday night. His daughters were all present at the time of his death. He was born at Ripley, W. Va., Feb. 3, 1859, and had spent his entire life in Warren County. He was educated in the public schools of Indianola and also attended Simpson College. Mr. Watson was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Proudfoot in October 1883. They started housekeeping on a farm near Ackworth where they lived for a year, later moving to a farm near Carlisle. He quite farming about 40 years ago and moved to Indianola. He and his brother, J. H. Watson, operated a grocery story here for several years. Later they entered the fuel business in which they have been engaged for years.
Surviving Relatives
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. C. H. Battels, St. Petersburg, Fla., who has been visiting here. Miss Lelia Watson, Mrs. Dorothy Lewis and Miss Julia Watson, all of Indianola; one sister, Miss Mattie Watson, Indianola; and one brother, Joseph O. Watson Sr., preceded him in death.
