Ernest V. Badley Passes Away of a Heart Attack
Brother of Bishop Thoburn Badley Dies at Home of Brother-in-law, C. M. Trimble
Ernest V. Badley, 66, of Burlingame, Calif., native of Lucknow, India, a brother of Bishop Brenton Thoburn Badley, of the Delhi, India, area of the Methodist Church, died of a heart attack at the home of his brother-in-law, C. M. Trimble, where he arrived two months ago for a visit, Sunday afternoon. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Orr’s Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. Dr. Walter M. Scheuermann, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Indianola Cemetery. Mr. Badley’s death was not unexpected. He had been suffering from high blood pressure for a considerable period and had come to Indianola in the hope that a change might be beneficial. He was accompanied here by his wife who was formerly Miss Carrie Trimble.
Simpson Alumnus
A son of Dr. Brenton Badley, the first missionary who went out from Simpson to foreign fields, and a member of the first graduating class at Simpson, he was born at Lucknow, India, Nov. 6, 1873. His father was the founder of the first Methodist College in India. Mr. Badley matriculated at Simpson College in the early nineties and distinguished himself as a student and as a track athlete and football player. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Simpson. On account of failing health, he left Simpson and attended Leland Stanford University for a year, returning here for another year of study.
Former City Clerk
Two surviving brothers, Bishop Badley and Theodore Badley reside in India and there is also another brother, Rex Badley, who lives at Glendale, Calif. After leaving Simpson Mr. Badley was associated with a bakery business in Indianola. For several years he was city clerk here. His grandfather was one of the first circuit riders in Warren County. He was married to Miss Carrie Trimble, a Simpson alumna, in 1897. They had lived in California for the past 25 years.
Surviving Relatives
For a number of years he was associated with the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks as vice grand president, with headquarters in Chicago. He retired a year ago from active work in the hope that a complete rest would restore him to normal health. He is survived by his widow and the three brothers.
