Ruth Perthenia Watts
(February 14, 1845 – July 31, 1935)Ruth Perthenia Watts was born February 14, 1845, at Mainville, Ohio, and departed this life Wednesday morning, July 31, at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 17 days. She united with the Methodist Church at Hartford at the age of fourteen. Her membership was later transferred to the Methodist Church in Carlisle, of which she continued her church affiliations throughout the years. She was married to William Watts in 1880. No children were born to this union, but she reared two nieces, Mrs. Eunice Ghrist and Mrs. Clara Hinshaw, also a grandniece, Mrs. Ruth Larson. These, with a sister, Mrs. Rena Randleman, and many other nieces and nephews and friends remain to mourn her departure. After coming with her parents from Ohio at the age of six years, the active part of her life was spent in Warren County at Hartford and Carlisle, where she made many friends and where her benevolence will long be remembered. Aunt Fean, as she was called, spent the past ten years of her life at the home of the nieces she had reared. She was an invalid during this time. Funeral services were held Friday, August 2, at the Carlisle Methodist Church with burial in the Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines. Indianola Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Wed., August 14, 1935, p.3
