Mary Lauretta Griffen, daughter of the Rev. Charles Griffen and Kizzie Griffen, was born in Peoria County, Ill., November 30, 1855 and died at her home in Lucas, August 7, 1935, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 25 days. When a child, she moved with her parents, four brothers and two sisters to Milo. There she spent her girlhood. On February 19, 1875, she was united in marriage to James A. Walker of Milo who preceded her in death January 26, 1927. To this union were born four children: Charles E., Ida F., Hattie E., and James H., deceased. In 1892 they moved to a farm near Pleasanton, the farm being located in Missouri. They resided there for eighteen years and then moved to Lucas where they spent the rest of their lives. They resided there for twenty-five years. When a girl she united with the Christian Union Church at the Plainville Chapel near Milo. She is survived by her three children: Charles, Ida and Hattie; 14 grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great grandchild, and one brother, Levi Griffen of Oklahoma. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, August 9, at 2 o’clock, at the Methodist Church in Lucas, conducted by the Rev. N. D. Gordon of Indianola. Burial was in the Plainville Chapel cemetery south of Milo. Indianola Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Wed., August 14, 1935, p.3
