Virgil O. Summers, 80 of 314 S. Ransom, Died Wednesday at 6:55p.m. at his home following a three-year illness. He had been an employee of John Morrell and Co. for 35 years prior to hi retirement as a supervisor in 1956.
He was born Sept. 17, 1891 in Putnam County, Mo, the son of the Rev. Samuel and Surilda Bradshaw Summers. He had lived in Ottumwa most of his life. He was a member to the Ottumwa Baptist Temple. He married Bertha L Canny on May 29, 1914 in Ottumwa.. She survives, Also surviving is one daughter Mrs. Violet Swaim of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. The service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Ottumwa Baptist Temple. The Rev. A. D. Pringle will officiate, Burial will be in the Shaul Cemetery. Pallbears will be Jack and Jerry Zesiger, Dick Guest, Steve Canny, Charles Summers and Floyd Mooney.
The casket will remain at the Johnson Funeral Chapel until 9 a.m. Saturday when it will be taken to the church and closed at the beginning of the service.
