Joe P. Leinhauser, 81, of Ottumwa, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at the Vista Woods Care Center. He was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Ottumwa to Paul and Louise Brodbeck Leinhauser. He married Patricia Palmer on Oct. 17, 1948, in Ottumwa and celebrated 60 years of marriage. Joe was very active with the Wapello County Historical Society and also served with Iowa National Guard and on the City Planning and Zoning Board as well as participating in the local ham radio club. Joe worked as a design engineer for John Deere for 32 years retiring in 1983. He was a graduate of Ottumwa High School class of 1946. Joe is survived by his wife, Pat of Ottumwa; one son, Tom (Annie) of Agency; one daughter, Jeri Palmer of Roslyn, Wash.; two grandchildren, Julie Richardson of Monmonth, Ill. and Katie Woods of Ottumwa. Also surviving are three great-grandsons and his brother, Donald of Springfield, Mass. He was preceded in death by his parents. As per Joe’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. No visitation is planned and burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Wapello County Historical Society and left at the funeral home. Shrine of Memories is in charge of arrangements.
