John William Watson, 99, formerly of 308 E. Adams Ave., died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 1989, at Parkview Care Center.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery. Family visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Glasgow Cemetery and First Christian Church.
Watson was born Aug. 7, 1890, in Van Buren County, the son of John A. and Mary E. Williams Watson. He married Claire Litton Sept. 18, 1912, in Ottumwa. She died May 26, 1981. A farmer, he had lived in Van Buren County for 10 years and Jefferson County for 89 years. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Fulton of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Mae Peebler of Fairfield. Four sons, Raymond, James, Donald Richard; a daughter, Shirley; four sisters, Susie, Velma, Rosa, Benna and two brothers, Dan and Ray, preceded him in death.
