Bernice Davis

STOCKPORT - Bernice G. Davis, 85, Cedar Falls, former Van Buren County resident, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 1989, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

The service was held Sunday afternoon at Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Burial was at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Spencer Cemetery at Stockport.

Mrs. Davis was born July 30, 1904, in Milford, Ill., the daughter of Earl Q. and Blanche Mae Burgett Davis. She graduated from high school in Hansell in 1916. She married James Fern Hawbaker May 22, 1925, in Marshalltown. They farmed in and around Van Buren County. He died Dec. 25, 1970. On March 21, 1974, she married Charles N. Davis in Wisconsin. They lived in Cedar Falls. He died Feb. 23, 1989. She was a past worthy matron of Bonaparte Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are a son, Jerry Hawbaker of St. Peter, Minn.; a daughter, Janet Schultz of Davenport; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wendell Davis of Cedar Falls, Denton Davis of Aredale; a sister, Lucille Aubrey of Burlington and two stepsons, Dean Davis of Greene and Jerry Davis of Tucson, Ariz. Two brothers, Guy and Glenn, preceded her in death.

Bernice G. Davis

Bernice was born July 30, 1904, in Milford, Ill., the daughter of Earl Q. and Blanche Mae (Burgett) Davis. She moved with her family to Hansel, Iowa, in 1916, where she graduated from high school. Bernice married James Fern Hawbaker May 22, 1925, in Marshalltown, Iowa. The couple farmed in and around Van Buren County. Mr. Hawbaker died December 25, 1970. She then married Charles N. Davis March 21, 1974, in Wisconsin. The couple made their home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Mr. Davis died February 23, 1989.

Bernice was Past Worthy Matron of Bonaparte Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her son Jerry Hawbaker of St. Peter, Minn.; her daughter Janet Schultz of Davenport, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Marilyn Martinsen; Valerie Vidal; Warren Schultz; Rand Hawbaker; Joan Multon; Beth Bruback; Sandy Lufenberg; and Joel Hawbaker; seven great grandchildren, Stephanie; Justin; Evan; Perry; Carly; Steve; and Ethan; two brothers, Wendell Davis of Cedar Falls; Denton Davis of Aredale, Iowa; a sister Lucille Aubrey of Burlington, Iowa; and two stepsons, Dean Davis of Greene, Iowa; and Jerry Davis of Tucson, Ariz.

Bernice entered into rest on Thursday, October 26, 1989, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and Glenn.

Interment was Monday, October 30, 1989 at Spencer Cemetery, Stockport, Iowa.
