Oscar (Cy) Ferris

Oscar (Cy) Ferris, 87, 2804 Flint Hills Drive, Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Ft. Madison, died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, March 7, 1988 at Veterans Medical Center, Iowa City. He had been in failing health eight months.

Mr. Ferris was born Feb. 12, 1901, at Keokuk. He was a retired power plant engineer at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Middletown, with 30 years of service. He served in the Navy and later in the Army during World War II.

In June 1941, at Kahoka, Mo., he married Johnnie Beale, who died Feb. 29, 1956. On Dec. 22, 1956, at Independence, Iowa, he married Amy Johnson, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Bell, Burlington; three step sons, Clint Hart, Rocky River, Ohio, Harden Hart, Tulsa, Okla., and Leonard Johnson, Burlington; two step daughters, Mrs. Martha Engler, Salisbury, Md., and Linda Durfee, Ponca City, Okla.; a sister, Ruth Dawson, Keosauqua; three grandchildren and a number of step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. His parents were Philo and Addie Smith Ferris.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 1988 at King-Lynk Funeral Home, Ft. Madison, Dr. Raymond Boulter officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
