Downing, 57, Dies Today

Orville Lester Downing, 57, 701 W. Briggs, died at 6:45 a.m., today at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield where he had been a patient the past two weeks.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Raymond Funeral Home.

Downing was born Dec. 25, 1916 at Troy, Iowa, the son of Homer and Emma McVey Downing. He was reared in Van Buren County.

He was married to Irene Riedel Sept. 8, 1938 in Kahoka, Mo. He was employed at the Fairfield Aluminum Castings Co., for over 25 years. He attended the Free Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, four children, Mrs. Carolyn Thomas and James Downing, both of Fairfield, Mrs. Janet Messenger of Gary, Ind., and Victor Downing of Rensselaer, Ind.; six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Velma Kinney, Mrs. Irene Bentley, Ernest Downing, Mrs. Laree Huff, Mrs. Helen Bernstroff, all of Milton, Victor Downing of Memphis, Mo., and his mother, Mrs. Emma Downing of Milton.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Downing Rites On Wednesday

Last rites for Orville Lester Downing, 57, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. George Koch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Members of the family will receive friends at the Raymond Funeral Home this evening, Tuesday, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Orville Downing died Monday at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield where he had been a patient the past two weeks. The family home is at 701 W. Briggs.

(My connection to this family is through the Rodabaugh line. Irene Riedel's grandmother was a Rodabaugh.)
