Alma (Mickey) Swearingen

Alma Maxine (Mickey) Swearingen was born at Milton, Iowa, August 28, 1916, and died at Freeport, Illinois, July 31, 1979.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Alma McLenland (Hoskin); two brothers, Hollis and Harold and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sam Lunsford, Wyaconda, Missouri and Mrs. John P. Shibley, Freeport, Illinois, plus many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Mickey graduated from Milton High School and later moved to Gorin, Missouri, where she helped her mother and step-father operate the Gorin Locker Plant. She was employed at Sheaffer Pen Co., in Fort Madison, Iowa, for a period and during World War Two she helped build B-25 bombers for the armed forces at the Boeing Aircraft Plant in Kansas City, Missouri. For the past 25 years she had been an employee of Honeywell Manufacturing Corporation at their Freeport, Illinois plant. She had been placed on disability retirement after suffering a stroke in 1975 and had been cared for by her two sisters until entering a nursing home in Freeport, Illinois in November of 1977.

Mickey was a devoted family person and spent much of her time and energy with her family.

Funeral services were held in the Payne-Gerth Chapel, Memphis, Missouri, Thursday, August 2, 1979, at 3 p.m. Lucile Long officiated at the services. Burial was in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton, Iowa. Body bearers were Paul Hoskinson, George Shibley, Curt McLeland, Tom Lunsford, Chuck McLeland and Tom Lunsford II.
